George Clooney refutes rumors that he and Brad Pitt made $35 million for their new movie: "Harmful to our profession"
The Venice Film Festival will premiere 'Wolfs' this weekend, featuring a duo in the lead roles.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt are in disagreement over a report about their salaries for their upcoming film.
Last week, it was reported by The New York Times that each star of "Ocean's 11" earned more than $35 million for their role in the movie.
At the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, Clooney discussed the report during a press conference for the film.
"Clooney stated through People that the article was interesting, but the source of the reported salary was millions less than what he believed it to be. He added that it was bad for the industry if people thought it was the standard-bearer for salaries, as it would make it impossible to make films."
Clooney's representatives did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
Clooney and Pitt gave back portions of their salaries for "Wolves" after a theatrical release deal fell through, resulting in a limited release.
He elaborated on the present difficulties in producing and marketing films in Hollywood.
"We wanted the release of the film in theaters, but we encountered some obstacles. We had a similar experience with the Clooney-directed biographical sports drama "The Boys in the Boat," which was initially planned for MGM but ended up being distributed by Amazon. Unfortunately, the film did not receive a foreign release, which was unexpected. We are still working to understand the reasons behind this."
"He remarked, "We're all in this industry and facing challenges post-COVID. Despite the obstacles, many people will see the film, and we're getting a release in several hundred theaters. Although it would have been ideal to have a wide release, we're still making progress.""
Last year, Clooney and Pitt agreed to give some of their salaries back to Deadline for a movie they were working on. At the time, this decision was not as widely accepted as it is now.
"Clooney and Pitt have not shared the screen together in 16 years since their appearance in "Burn After Reading" in 2008."
