'Fast & Furious' actor claims mother made him feign special needs to receive government benefits.
Both the 'Fast & Furious' and 'Transformers' franchises have featured Tyrese Gibson.
Gibson is revealing startling information about his upbringing, confessing that his mother employed him as a tool to help the family financially.
Gibson revealed on the "Million Dollaz Worth of Game" podcast with rapper King Gillie and influencer Wallo267 that his stomach was touching his back and he relied on various forms of public aid, including WIC vouchers and county checks, during his upbringing.
In a single-parent household in a Los Angeles neighborhood, the actor grew up with one brother and two sisters.
"The "Transformers" star revealed that his mama made them visit the Social Security building and play "government cheese.""
Gibson stated to the camera, "You can't arrest my momma 'cause she's gone," referring to Patricia Murray Gibson, who passed away in 2022 after being hospitalized with both COVID-19 and pneumonia.
Gibson stated that the plan they devised was to go into the county building and if they succeeded, they would receive $760 a month. She emphasized that this money would be beneficial for her family, who were struggling to make ends meet. She shared her experiences of being a single mother in the hood, working hard to provide for her children.
Gibson, who was only 8 years old at the time, was confused when his mother instructed him to "delay" his answers. When he asked for clarification, she explained that if someone asked him what color the wall was, he should act like he was thinking about it.
Gibson made it clear that his mother did not fully comprehend the situation and did not use offensive language.
"She was essentially saying, "We need to go in there and convince them that you have problems.""
"She was just basically like, ‘We got to go up in there and make them believe that y’all got some issues.'" — Tyrese Gibson
The singer, known for his hit song "How You Gonna Act Like That," recounted how his mother informed him that he would need to undergo an assessment. He recalled a woman entering the room and speaking to him as if he was slow, presenting him with a puzzle. Gibson followed his mother's instructions to delay his responses.
"Neither of my sisters did it, but my brother and I definitely did it."
The actor from "Fast & Furious" expressed immense gratitude for his current situation.
""My career has been like a rental car that I'll eventually have to return. I'm almost 30 years old and feel blessed to have God's guidance in my life. Every day is like Christmas for me," he confessed."
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive a response from Gibson's representatives.
