Elton John, 77, reveals that his sons worry about his mortality.
David Furnish and John have two sons together: Zachary, who is 13 years old, and Elijah, who is 11 years old.
Elton John's documentary provides insight into his relationships with his two sons.
In the documentary "Elton John: Never Too Late," which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 6, the singer discusses the concerns his two sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, have about his "mortality."
In the documentary, he stated, "They worry about my mortality, not so much David, but me," referring to David Furnish, his husband and the boys' other father.
The singer, who is 77 years old, stated that he has a strong connection with his two sons and that they deeply love and desire for their father to always be present.
John's children are not the only ones who worry about him not being around for the monumental moments of their lives, as he himself acknowledges that he "would love to be around forever," but knows that won't happen.
"I hope to witness them have children and get married, but I'm not sure if I'll be present for that. Who knows? You never know. Therefore, I want to make the most of my time while I'm here," he says. "Time together is so precious."
The singer's recent eye infection has made him more aware of his mortality, leaving him with "limited vision" in one eye.
"They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality." — Elton John
Earlier this month, he publicly disclosed his battle with the infection on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the medical staff who treated him and his loved ones who stood by him during the challenging period.
"During the summer, I suffered from a severe eye infection that resulted in limited vision in one eye. Although I am healing, the process is slow and it may take some time before my vision returns to normal. I have been quietly recovering at home and am optimistic about my progress so far."
John's final concert in North America during his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in November 2022 is documented, as he reflects on his career's highs and lows, spanning over decades.
John and Furnish participated in a Q&A following the documentary's premiere, with John emphasizing the importance of honesty in the film. He shared how difficult it was for him to conceal his identity and how much his life improved once he came out.
""By not telling the truth and fooling myself, I lost years of happiness, but when I stopped deceiving myself, my life improved," he stated during the Q&A."
Disney+ will release "Elton John: Never Too Late" on Dec. 13.
