Despite fans' pleas, Steve Martin declines Tim Walz's role on 'SNL'.
Maya Rudolph invites Steve Martin to portray Tim Walz on 'Saturday Night Live' as requested by fans.
Despite fans' pleas, Steve Martin is not interested in portraying Governor Tim Walz as Kamala Harris' running mate on "Saturday Night Live."
After Harris announced her running mate for Minnesota Gov., Martin received a call from "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels to appear on the show.
Martin revealed that he wanted to say no during his phone call with Michaels, and Michaels also wanted him to say no, according to the outlet.
"I stated, 'Lorne, I am not an impressionist. You require someone who can accurately portray the individual.' I was selected because I have gray hair and glasses," he continued.
The actor pointed out that his ongoing commitment to portraying Walz on "SNL" does not match his current schedule.
"Again, they need a real impressionist to do that. They’re going to find somebody really, really good. I’d be struggling." — Steve Martin
"Martin stated that the task is ongoing and not a one-time event that receives applause and then never needs to be done again. He emphasized that a true impressionist is needed to execute it properly. He acknowledged that finding someone truly exceptional would be challenging and that he himself would struggle with it."
After naming Walz as her running mate, Harris sparked rumors that Martin would be joining "SNL" with Maya Rudolph.
Martin wrote that he learned Tim Walz intends to travel with Marty Short.
Martin mentioned his "Only Murders in the Building" co-star Martin Short in his post, causing fans to notice the resemblance between Martin and Walz.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, a user stated that Steve Martin would definitely portray Walz on 'SNL'.

In July, Deadline announced that Rudolph would reprise her role as Harris on "Saturday Night Live" for the 50th season. The actress first portrayed the current Vice President in 2019 when Harris ran for the democratic nomination for president.
In 2020, the outlet reported that Harris queried Rudolph about his experience portraying her on the late-night comedy program.
"I didn't form an opinion about Senator Harris because I wasn't imitating her while walking around the house. However, I believe it starts with attempting to capture someone's voice if possible. Although Senator Harris is not overtly eccentric, when I put on the wig on SNL, it was a significant moment."
