Collin Gosselin's dream of joining the Marines was shattered due to institutionalization brought on by his reality star mother.
A son of the stars of 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' claims he was discharged from the Marines because of his time in a mental health facility.
After graduating from high school last year, Collin Gosselin, a former reality star, aspired to join the armed forces and become a Marine.
When it was discovered that the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star had been previously institutionalized, his dreams of serving his country were shattered.
Collin revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he is no longer officially in the Marines, stating that the decision was not his to make.
He stated, "I was discharged." It was near the conclusion of training, just before graduation. The paperwork was reviewed, and it was discovered that he had previously been in an institution. There was no need for a further explanation. Being in an institution was sufficient reason for discharge.
"I was in an institution, and that's all there was to it."
Neither the Gosselin representatives nor the USMC responded to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
"Jon & Kate Plus 8" aired on TLC from 2007-09, when the former couple divorced. One year later, the show was rebranded as "Kate Plus 8," which ran until 2017. During filming, Collin, the couple's sextuplet son, began to act out and rebel, sometimes giving "completely silent interviews" and refusing to interact.

At 12-years-old, Kate sent Collin to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric hospital in Philadelphia, where he was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder.
Kate stated during an episode of "Kate Plus 8" that she couldn't fulfill his requirements with her own resources. Meanwhile, "Kate Plus 8" continued with the other seven children. Jon admitted that he was unaware that Collin had been sent to a behavioral institute until he was eating lunch with the kids one day and Collin was absent.
At the time, Kate had full custody of the children and maintained that she didn't have to disclose Collin's location due to a court order.
Collin alleges that his mother put him in an institution to safeguard her reputation.
"He revealed to Entertainment Tonight that when he was 12 years old and sent away, he was clueless about his destination. He shared with his family that he was terrified, making it the scariest moment of his life."
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from Kate's representatives.
Although discharged from the Marines, Collin is still fighting to fulfill his dream of serving in the military through an appeal.
"Being a United States Marine is my top wish in life," he stated.
Collin intends to study finance at Penn State while remaining near his father and sister Hannah.
Collin expressed his belief that although they would miss each other's company, he thought he was excited about pursuing his own journey.
There is a possibility that Collin may return to reality television, although it is unlikely to be on a full-time basis.
