Carrie Underwood reveals her approach to judging on 'American Idol' will center on three essential qualities.
Carrie Underwood replaces Katy Perry as a judge on season 25 of 'American Idol'.
Carrie Underwood's "American Idol" comeback is the culmination of 20 years.
Katy Perry was replaced on the judges' panel for the 25th season of "American Idol" by the "Before He Cheats" singer.
At a Music Row Happy Hour event at Resorts World Las Vegas, Underwood shared her plans for fairly evaluating the contestants in three ways.
"She informed Buzz Brainard that she believed she could be truthful and constructive while remaining compassionate. She emphasized that this was crucial because individuals were entering, and it was all about dreams."
Underwood stated, "Being a part of someone's story from that moment on, it's crucial to be honest but also kind. I aim to combine both in my interactions."
In 2005, the "Jesus Take the Wheel" singer won "American Idol" and has since become one of the biggest country music stars of all time. Underwood reflects on the two decades since she took a chance on the show.
"It's been twenty years since I auditioned in August, and now I'm back to competing," she told Brainard.
"You're a part of somebody's story from that moment on. I think it's important to be honest, but I think it's also very important to be kind. Hopefully, I can marry all of those together." — Carrie Underwood
Having two country artists on the judging panel is now a "kind of a win" for the radio host, especially with Underwood joining Luke Bryan.
Underwood stated, "I've been fortunate to be deeply rooted in country music while also having the opportunity to be involved in various other genres of music."
"I'm currently collaborating with Papa Roach on a song, which is really enjoyable. I consider myself versatile and hope that during auditions, I can adopt any perspective necessary to evaluate the music I'm listening to."
Auditions for the new season began Aug. 12.
Underwood has extended her "Reflection" Las Vegas residency at Resorts World, with additional shows scheduled through spring 2025.
Due to popular demand, she has extended the series multiple times, and began her residency in December 2021.
The impact of her work in Sin City on filming and judging the singing competition is still uncertain.
In February, on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", Perry revealed that she would be departing from "American Idol" after having been a part of the show for seven seasons.
