Blood cancer diagnosis announced by Bruce Springsteen's wife.
Since 2018, Patti Scialfa, who is both Bruce Springsteen's wife and bandmate, has been fighting blood cancer.
Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen's wife, has disclosed that she has been fighting a type of blood cancer for the past six years.
At the Toronto Film Festival premiere of Springsteen's documentary, "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," Scialfa revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018. According to the Mayo Clinic, multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that develops in plasma cells, a type of white blood cell.
Scialfa, who has health concerns, stepped away from the E Street Band's current tour, which began in February 2023 and will end in July 2025.
"In the documentary, Scialfa stated that touring has become a challenge for him due to its impact on his immune system. He must exercise caution when selecting activities and locations to minimize any potential harm."
Occasionally, I perform on stage at shows and sing a few songs, which has been a delightful experience for me. This is my new normal, and I am content with it.

In 1991, Scialfa joined the E Street Band and later married Springsteen. She was first diagnosed with cancer during the "Springsteen on Broadway" residency.
In 2023, Scialfa revealed that she had stepped away from the E Street Band's tour to spend time with her grandchild, although she had previously spoken about taking a break from touring without mentioning her health as the reason.
In July 2022, Springsteen and Scialfa's son, Son, welcomed a daughter, Lily.
"I felt unnecessary on stage because there were many musicians performing," she said to the outlet. "During the first few shows, I observed how everything was going smoothly and thought, 'This is great. It's completely perfect. There isn't much space for me to contribute anything unique.'"
"She explained that she couldn't complete her record while Bruce was at home because he was always in the studio, so she seized the opportunity to do it."
Springsteen has been battling his own health concerns over the past year.
Despite the initial postponement of his tour last summer due to a peptic ulcer that made singing so painful he couldn't do it for months, health issues have continued to plague Springsteen.
In May, the "Born in the U.S.A" singer was forced to reschedule all concerts within a 10-day period due to medical advice.
Bruce will not perform for the next ten days due to vocal issues, as determined by further examination and consulting with doctors.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, additional postponements are necessary for the Airport Letnany show in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and the San Siro Stadium show in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3). New dates for these shows will be announced shortly. Refunds will be available at the original point of purchase. Bruce is currently recovering comfortably and is excited to resume his hugely successful European stadium tour with the E Street Band on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan."
