'Baywatch' actors reveal how they made the show great despite its poor quality.
'Baywatch' featured David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Nicole Eggert and other notable actors.
Years later, the biggest stars of "Baywatch" revealed that the show's plot "wasn't that good."
"The popular TV series "Baywatch," which aired from 1989 to 2001, featured stars such as David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and Nicole Eggert. At its peak, the show drew 1.2 billion viewers per week. Eggert, who played Summer Quinn, reunited with her former cast in the docuseries "Baywatch: Moment in the Sun" to reflect on the show's impact."
Over three decades have passed, and the actors can now confess that the storylines were somewhat implausible.
"In the docuseries, Hasselhoff admitted that the show wasn't good, but they made it good because of their passion, as reported by People magazine."
Kelly Slater, who played the role of young surfer Jimmy Slade, remembered an episode in which an octopus stole their surfboard and held them captive.
He remarked that the writing was incomprehensible in numerous aspects.
However, the "nonsensical" writing seemingly helped the show.
"Our ratings increased every time a joke was told about us on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,' as we were frequently the subject of humor," Douglas Schwartz, co-creator, explained.
Although the show was successful, the "Baywatch" actors didn't receive much pay. Eggert reports that each star earned $3,500 per episode.
During the docuseries, she stated, "At that point, I believe they were earning $1 million per episode as 'Friends'."
Erika Eleniak recalls feeling overwhelmed upon receiving her first paycheck, exclaiming, "I remember freaking out when I saw my first paycheck after taxes were deducted. How am I going to make ends meet with this amount?"
Billy Warlock, who played Eddie Kramer for two seasons on 'Baywatch,' stated that there is no wealthy actor on the show.
At Monday's premiere, Eggert, the leader of the "Baywatch" docuseries project, shared her cancer journey with fans.
"Eggert told People magazine on the red carpet, "I am in a gray area and have finished my treatment, awaiting more imaging and hopefully maybe surgery.""
""The gray area is the hardest because you don't know what's happening, and you're just doing something productive when you're doing treatment," she explained."
Eggert was diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer in 2023.
