At 93, Barbara Eden, the star of 'I Dream of Jeannie,' overcomes aging through exercise, healthy eating, and indulgences.
Adam Scott Rote's 'Disney Fine Art' exhibition features a sitcom star at Wyland Galleries in Orlando, Florida.
At age 93, Barbara Eden may have discovered the fountain of youth.
The actress who played "I Dream of Jeannie" and celebrated her birthday on Aug. 23 has no plans to slow down. She recently appeared at Fan Boy Expo Comic Con and will be heading to Wyland Galleries in Orlando, Florida, for Adam Scott Rote's exhibition, "Disney Fine Art," on Oct. 18.
The actress revealed to Planet Chronicle Digital that maintaining an active lifestyle is crucial for both appearing and feeling youthful.
"Eden used to work out frequently, participating in spinning classes and weight training with a trainer. However, when COVID hit, her heavy workouts came to an end. Now, she has a stationary bicycle and lifts five pounds using lightweight weights that are beneficial for bone health."
Eden relishes the convenience of exercising at home but yearns for the social aspect of working out at the gym with others.
"I enjoy the camaraderie and I adored the spinning classes," she stated. "It motivates me. And I'm not a natural self-starter. I need to remind myself to ride my bike."
"I used to work out all the time. I used to do spinning classes and then do weights with a trainer… When COVID hit, that ended my heavy workouts. Now I have a stationary bicycle and I lift five pounds. I use very lightweight weights, but they’re good for your bones." — Barbara Eden
Lucy suggested trying out various workout routines to discover what works best for you and your lifestyle, and doing so keeps your workouts exciting, she emphasized.
"I recall when aerobics was extremely popular," she stated. "It was beneficial for your health. Although I gave it a try, it wasn't for me. However, walking is another story. If you walk briskly, which I enjoy, it's great for your knees and ankles. I prefer it over running."
"I enjoy both Italian and German cuisine. Schnitzel is particularly tasty when it's served with lemon. While growing up in San Francisco, we had access to the best Italian and Chinese food available. However, my friend disagrees and believes that the best food can be found in New York."
"I'm a sugar eater, and I love sweets like key lime pie and angel food cake. My sister brought me a key lime pie for my birthday, and I make my own angel food cake with a sharp, sweet lemon icing. Chocolates are also a favorite of mine. You can't go wrong with me - just give me anything sweet."
Although she looked stunning on set, Eden stated that she prefers a straightforward skincare regimen to maintain healthy, soft skin.
"She stated that she cleanses her face with Cetaphil every night, which is very gentle. She also uses Estée Lauder's Repair Serum every night. She has been using a serum on her face since she was a teenager. However, she emphasized the importance of keeping your face clean. When she wears makeup, she removes it with a gentle facial cleanser that foams up. She never goes to bed without washing her face. She likes to moisturize and go to sleep clean."
"She revealed that she has mastered the art of applying makeup on set. Working with top makeup artists in Hollywood has taught her the best techniques, so it was only natural for her to learn."
"I never knew how to use eyeliner until I went to the hospital and saw the nurses with beautiful curly lashes. Now, it's easy to learn how to apply your own makeup."
Eden, a successful Hollywood actress, has appeared alongside Elvis Presley in "Flaming Star" and believes staying busy keeps her feeling young.
"I value my fans' support and appreciate their kindness," she stated. "My fans are always respectful and enjoyable to be around, no matter where we meet."
The 1968 Bordeaux scene in Elvis Presley's film was removed due to its explicit content.
During one unforgettable Halloween, Eden remembered colliding with a cluster of "Jeannies."
"I recall three young men from college who visited my front door, all dressed as Jeannie with the ponytail, pink pants, and other accessories. Despite not encouraging this behavior, I found their antics amusing."
Eden confessed that she did not know what has kept her going over the years, but the drive was always present.
""I don't think about it," she said. "A shrink would likely say that I want to be productive and not idle. If I wasn't doing what I'm doing, I'd find a job to stay active and contribute to society. Trying is crucial; not trying leads to inactivity, which is not good. I believe in being busy and productive," she emphasized."
Eden has accumulated numerous credits throughout her journey, but she does not dwell on the past. Instead, she focuses on progressing.
"She stated that she rarely thinks about it. Instead of sitting and contemplating, one simply does it; time passes and one moves on with it."
