After 21 years of marriage, Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán have decided to end their relationship.
The couple who were once together issued a joint statement on social media, explaining the reasons behind their divorce.
After 28 years of being together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce.
"After careful consideration, we have decided to approach divorce with a positive outlook, knowing it's the best choice for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together."
The couple shared a photo of their past and present selves, accompanied by a statement.
"This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together." — Leah Remini, Angelo Pagán
We are sad and need to figure out our new normal as we move forward together in some ways and apart in others.
Although they have been close friends for a long time and continue to meet as a family, the pair have given reasons for choosing to separate.
In essence, we both evolved, like everyone does, and we grew accustomed to portraying characters that didn't align with our true selves. After much deliberation and exertion, we have decided to take this action, which embodies our present identities.
"Our bond has evolved into something different, but it remains strong. We celebrate our 20-year marriage and the beautiful memories we created together, including raising our amazing daughter."
Sofia Bella was welcomed by Remini and Pagán on June 16, 2004. Pagán has three additional sons from a previous relationship.
"We consider this marriage a great success and are excited to make more cherished memories in a different way."
Leah Remini and Pagán revealed their desire for transparency in their relationship, which had been under scrutiny for years. The couple had previously appeared in VH1 specials and starred in a reality show, "Leah Remini: It’s All Relative," which aired on TLC from 2014 to 2015.
"We are introducing you to this unexplored territory as we embark on the next phase of our lives in the public eye."
They expressed a desire for individuals to have greater exposure to diverse relationship narratives and avoid feeling isolated while dealing with the annual changes experienced by millions of couples.
"Our journey aims to inspire others to view relationships as opportunities for growth, rather than failures. We will continue to share our experiences as we navigate this new chapter. Love, Leah & Angelo."
In 2003, Remini and Pagán got married after meeting at El Floridita in Los Angeles in 1996, where Pagán was performing.
A week after Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, their announcement was made.
In May, after a falling-out in 2022 over Affleck, Remini and Lopez reconnected, according to Page Six.
A source claimed that "The King of Queens" actress cautioned Lopez to recall the reason she initially ended things with Affleck when they first started dating in 2002: "Because he is selfish and not fully committed as a partner."
Lopez and Affleck's second wedding ceremony in Georgia was not attended by Remini.
Neither Remini nor Pagán promptly answered Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry for a comment.
