A Pioneer Woman says her husband's 'unyielding struggle' must end.
Five children are shared by Ree and Ladd Drummond; Alex, 27, Paige, 24, Bryce, 21, Jamar, 21, and Todd, 20.
Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman, is urging her husband to reduce his work on the ranch.
On her blog, The Pioneer Blog, Food Network star revealed how she feels watching her husband, Ladd Drummond, continue to work the fields on their ranch, stating that he had a "busy, slightly rough summer."
"I feel like I say this every year, but the work, the early mornings, the unrelenting grind, and the exhaustion...it has been a little much," she wrote.
She later clarified in the post that Ladd had not complained to her, and these were her own feelings. Writing, she believed he would likely say, "It's just part of life."
For most of his life, Ladd worked as a rancher in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, as he comes from a long line of cattle ranchers. Now, he and Ree own and operate their own ranch, Drummond Ranch, where they live in a newly built house on the property.
"A few weeks ago, after observing him enter the room with dust and blood stains on his body following a long day, I uttered, 'I don't think we can continue with this,'" she wrote. "Although it was said in jest, there was also a hint of seriousness. I was thinking about how much more difficult it could become, how much longer it could last, and whether he was okay."
Three years after Ladd was involved in a car accident with his nephew Caleb while trying to put out a wildfire on the ranch, Ree expressed her concerns about Ladd overworking himself.
"Ladd has had…a busy, slightly rough summer. I think I say this every year, but the work, the early mornings, the unrelenting grind, the exhaustion…it has been a little much." — Ree Drummond
Although Ladd declined medical care at the accident site and directed paramedics to help his nephew instead of himself, his injuries were more severe than he believed.
"In a March 2021 blog post, Lee wrote that Ladd suffered a neck injury with two fractures, one of which was close to being catastrophic. Despite cowboys' tendency not to admit when they're hurt, Ladd was transferred to Tulsa for surgery to stabilize one of the fractures. Thanks to rods, hardware, and an amazing neurosurgeon named Dr. Kalani, the danger is now over."
Ree shared a photo of her husband riding a horse on Instagram, updating fans about the recovery of Ladd and Caleb from their accident on the ranch a few weeks prior.
The couple, who began fostering five children in 2018, recently celebrated their daughter Paige's engagement in Dallas, Texas. Ree detailed the party in her blog post, highlighting how great it was to see her husband take a break from the hard work on the ranch.
Seeing him happy and enjoying the celebration of his second child and the man she's marrying made her feel a little better about things.
