Warriors players were reassured by Steph Curry and Steve Kerr that they need not worry about the outcome of the Trump election, according to a teammate.
During the election cycle, Vice President Kamala Harris had vocal supporters in Curry and Kerr.
The Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and head coach Steve Kerr were fervently supporting Vice President Harris during the recent election.
Despite their crushing loss to President-elect Donald Trump, the team remained focused on getting a big win against the Boston Celtics last week, according to a team player.
Brandin Podziemski, the second-year Warriors shooting guard, revealed to Planet Chronicle Digital in an exclusive interview what the locker room vibe was like after Trump's landslide victory over Harris last week. According to Podziemski, Curry and Kerr made it clear that they were focused on the upcoming game.
"In Boston, our main goal was to defeat the Celtics," Podziemski stated. "Regardless of who was elected, we knew we had to handle it, so Steve, Steph, and the rest of the group decided to concentrate solely on the game since that was the only thing we could control."
In the Warriors' locker room, there was a wide range of opinions, but few discussions about the specific election results, as suggested by Podziemski.
"We all have our own beliefs and opinions, and I believe that it won't affect our relationships with the guys. Therefore, we let everyone have their own opinion and didn't discuss it much among ourselves. We focused on what was in front of us."
Boston lost to the Warriors 118-112 last Wednesday, with Curry scoring 27 points. The team has a strong 9-2 record to begin the season.
During the election cycle, both Curry and Kerr publicly supported Harris and appeared as speakers at the Democrat National Convention in July.
During his speech, Kerr mocked Trump by boasting that Democrats would use Curry's famous on-court celebration to celebrate a Trump defeat, but that prediction was incorrect.
Kerr rested his head on his hands like a pillow and said, "After the results are tallied that night, we can tell Donald Trump, ‘Night, night!’"
Since the election results on Tuesday, both Curry and Kerr have congratulated Trump on his victory and wished the next president good luck.
"Congratulations on the hard-fought campaign," Curry said after the Celtics game. "The country's supposed to work by everyone supporting each other and having the right intentions to lead in the right direction. I hope that's what happens. I don't hold any resentment or ill will. I want the next four years to go great for everyone, and we need accountability."
Podziemski, originally from Greenfield, Wisconsin, first arrived in the Bay Area in 2022 after transferring from the University of Illinois to Santa Clara University. He was drafted in the first round by the Warriors in the 2023 NBA Draft and has become an effective bench player in his second season, contributing to the team's hot start.
Although he admires Curry and Kerr as leaders and champions, he does not believe their political activism is something he would emulate.
"Podziemski stated that he does not view any political figure as a role model. However, as a basketball player, he looks up to Steph. In terms of politics, he believes that everyone should have their own opinion and voice. As such, he values what everyone has to say and keeps pushing forward."
Podziemski, who was named an all-rookie first team in his first season, has averaged 8.2 points with 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists to start his second year. This season is crucial for him because of its significance to Curry, regardless of his political influence.
During an interview on CBS earlier this year, Curry did not dismiss the possibility of running for president himself after retiring from basketball.
Curry's sole focus is on reaching another NBA Finals, as he only has a limited number of years left to pursue a fifth championship. This topic has been discussed frequently with the veteran this season by Podziemski.
"Podziemski stated that he had discussed with him over the summer that he only has a limited number of years left, and he is aware of this, so his primary focus is to win ring number five."
Podziemski is doing his part to try and make that happen.
Recently, Podziemski has started a new sponsorship with Invisalign, as he has partnered with the dental technology brand as one of his endorsement deals, following the lead of fellow Warriors guard Kevon Looney.
"It made sense for me since over 18 million people use them worldwide," he said.
