The Angels' GM issues a warning to their top player before the 2025 season.
The Angels have barely had Anthony Rendon on the field.
The Angels have made questionable decisions in free agency while trying to win a World Series with Mike Trout as their leader and face of the team.
The Angels' performance has declined since the addition of Anthony Rendon following his impressive 2019 season with the Washington Nationals, which resulted in a World Series ring and the team's first championship.
Since 2021, Rendon has not played in at least 58 games. Despite injuries hindering his performance, his inability to stay healthy after signing a seven-year, $245 million deal has become a significant problem for the Angels, as he has yet to reach the 100-game plateau.
Los Angeles’ general manager Perry Minasian put Rendon on notice.
Minasian stated on 'Foul Territory' that Anthony understands his playing style when he's healthy and the importance of being on the field. He is aware of the expectations for him in camp.
"Anthony Rendon must prove his worth and earn the right to play every day by demonstrating his ability to play and contribute to the team. Is our team better with Anthony Rendon on the field? Yes, absolutely. We need a healthy Anthony Rendon who is a dynamic hitter and has a high aptitude for the game. He is aware of the need to perform at his best."
In 2025, Rendon is expected to be the Angels' starting third baseman, despite the team not having many prospects in the minors at that position.
In 2023, Cole Fontenelle was selected in the seventh round as a major league prospect. If things don't go as planned for Los Angeles, he could earn a spot on the team.
