DeAndre Hopkins explains the significance of the 'Remember the Titans' celebration after rumors of it being a diss to his former team.
Last month, the Chiefs acquired Hopkins from the Titans through a trade.
In his second game with the Kansas City Chiefs, Deandre Hopkins reverted to his previous form.
The Chiefs obtained Hopkins from the Titans in a trade two weeks ago, benefiting both teams as the Chiefs needed receiver assistance due to injuries, and the Titans had no place for a 32-year-old player on their team.
On Monday night, Hopkins played like his usual self after it took Mahomes and him some time to figure it out.
Mahomes and Hopkins scored two touchdowns, with Hopkins making eight catches for 86 yards.
Hopkins and his new teammates celebrated in the "Remember the Titans" style, prompting speculation that he was mocking his previous team.
But Hopkins actually said it was a shoutout to the state.
Hopkins posted on X early Tuesday morning: "Tennessee, if you know me, you know it's all love for Nashville. Ran and his crew are like family. Without them, I wouldn't be here."
Despite having injuries to Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice, the Chiefs' offense had not been as high-octane as usual, even with Travis Kelce having a slow start. However, Kelce recorded a career-high 14 receptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.
On Monday, Hopkins secured his second win with Kansas City, a 30-24 overtime victory that ended with a Kareem Hunt walk-off touchdown. Since rejoining the team that drafted him in 2017 following the broken fibula, he has looked like his old self, with Isiah Pacheco taking his place.
Kansas City is currently leading 8-0, and Hopkins has a strong possibility of winning his first Super Bowl.
