Caitlin Clark misses tee shot at LPGA Tour pro-am.
Clark participated in an LPGA pro-am.
On Wednesday morning, Caitlin Clark, the star of the Indiana Fever, discovered the humbling power of golf at an LPGA Tour pro-am event.
Nelly Korda's swing on the front nine nearly hit the fans who were gathered around the box, causing Clark to become angry.
As the crowd chuckled, Clark expressed his apologies. She placed a fresh ball on the tee, took a practice swing and attempted once more. This time, her effort resulted in a successful hit down the fairway.
In 2023, Clark participated in her second-ever pro-am, which was the John Deere Classic Pro-Am.
"She stated at the LPGA Women’s Leadership Summit on Tuesday that she has tried her best to practice as much as possible, acknowledging that she is just an average golfer who will have both good and bad shots. She added that she will strive not to hit anyone outside of the ropes while having fun."
The WNBA Rooke of the Year star from Indiana had an outstanding first season, which is widely considered one of the best in league history.
After the Fever were eliminated from the playoffs, she joked that maybe she would take up professional golf in the offseason. Clark, who had been playing basketball for months straight since November 2023, did not seem interested in joining the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league that was about to start.
She was kidding about taking up golf, sort of.
I've tried to dedicate as much time as possible to practice, but there is only so much optimism one can have. You simply hope for the best, pray," she said at the leadership summit. "No, I've practiced a little and I just had the quote about becoming a professional golfer. Everyone thought I was serious. I wasn't serious. I love it. I love being outside and competing with my friends.
"I am excited to be here and enjoy the company of the best while having a great time."
