RFK Jr. is being probed over his account of decapitating a beached whale.
Kennedy's daughter claimed he carried a whale skull on the roof of his car.
On Saturday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that he is being probed regarding a long-standing tale about him beheading a whale and transporting its skull across state lines.
During a campaign event for former President Trump, Kennedy admitted to receiving a letter last week regarding a whale story that was resurfaced by a left-wing environmental group weeks earlier, prompting a call for an investigation.
Kennedy stated on Saturday that he had received a letter from the National Marine Fisheries Institute informing him of an investigation into his collection of a whale specimen 20 years ago.
He stated that the government's use of weapons against political opponents is the main focus.
Kick Kennedy's 2012 interview with Town and Country Magazine made the incident public, despite Kennedy's lack of detail about it.
During the interview, Kick recounts the story of her father removing the head of a deceased whale and attaching it to the roof of their car, before driving from a Massachusetts beach to Mount Kisco, New York.
The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, a left-wing group, contended that the deceased animal was safeguarded under the Marine Mammal Protection and Endangered Species Acts, thereby making it unlawful to retain any of its parts.
It was suggested that the violation of the 1900 Lacey Act, which prohibits the transportation of any wildlife, dead or alive, that was reduced to possession in violation of any state, federal or international regulation or law, was likely a felony.
According to Kick, who spoke to the magazine, every time they accelerated on the highway, whale juice would pour into the car windows, making it the rankest thing on the planet. The incident occurred around 1994.
"We wore plastic bags with mouth holes cut out on our heads while people on the highway gave us the finger, but that was just a typical day for us," she said.
The Center for Biological Diversity revived the story shortly after Kennedy dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and backed Trump.
Kennedy has also admitted to dumping a dead bear's body in Central Park over a decade ago, aside from the whale incident being a recent controversy.
