NC GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson facing rumors of looming bombshell.
The rumors surrounding Robinson's campaign are 'utter fabrication', says his campaign team.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the current candidate for governor in North Carolina, is facing unrest within the GOP due to anticipation of a negative news story about him.
According to The Carolina Journal, reports suggest that the unpublished story involves Robinson's online activity on adult websites in the 2000s. Despite requests for comment from Planet Chronicle Digital, Robinson and his campaign remained silent.
Sources reported to the Journal that staff members of Robinson and former President Trump's campaign are urging Robinson to withdraw from the race.
The communications director for Robinson's campaign, Michael Lonergan, rejected the claims in a statement to the journal.
He informed the outlet that the sources he relied on were entirely fictional.
After canceling two campaign events on Thursday, Robinson announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and would not be appearing alongside Sen. JD Vance.
Earlier this week, a source close to Trump's campaign reportedly informed Robinson that he was not allowed to attend campaign events, according to a story that originated from Stein's campaign and was leaked to CNN and a local outlet.
In March, Robinson won the GOP nomination for governor, and if he is elected, he will become the state's first Black governor.
This spring, Robinson was endorsed by Trump, who described him as "an MLK on steroids."
According to the Journal, the damaging news story about Robinson is expected to be released sometime Thursday.
