Mike Johnson says that Trump is likely to visit Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
During a press conference on Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson celebrated his election victory by taking a victory lap.
According to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., there are tentative plans for President-elect Donald Trump to visit Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
During a Tuesday morning press conference, the Louisiana Republican revealed that he and Trump had discussed the issue of government funding in response to a question from Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Johnson stated that he did not intend to reveal the meeting between President Trump and President Biden at the White House this morning. However, since he mentioned it, he added that Trump had expressed his desire to visit with House Republicans."
He stated that the House leaders were finalizing the arrangements for his visit, which would occur prior to his encounter with Biden.
Johnson stated that it would be an excellent meeting and moment for everyone.
Johnson stated that he would be present at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida over the weekend to discuss government funding and other federal priorities.
Since winning the gavel in late October 2023, the speaker has developed a close working relationship with Trump.
Johnson would keep Trump informed of his policy and legislative decisions for the House before making them public, even before the election.
Since winning the 2024 election, Wednesday will mark Trump's first day back in the nation's capital.
The Tuesday morning press conference was held to announce the Republican Party's triumphs in the White House and Senate, and to express their self-assurance in maintaining the House majority.
The outcome of several close races is still uncertain, but enough trends are favoring Republicans that they believe they will control the power in Washington.
