Stefanik replaced by McClain in House GOP leadership.
Stefanik is set to become the United Nations ambassador.
The GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., has been replaced by a fellow House Republican in the party's leadership ranks.
On Wednesday evening, Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., was chosen as the House GOP Conference Chair, the fourth highest leadership role for Republicans in the chamber.
Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., was her main competitor in the internal race.
As the conference secretary of the House Republicans in the 118th Congress, McClain is already a member of leadership at a lower level.
The support of ally Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., and organizations such as the Log Cabin Republicans and the national Young Republicans helped strengthen Cammack's bid.
McClain received backing from various members of the Republican Conference, including those from the House Freedom Caucus and national security hawks.
Before being nominated by President-elect Trump to serve as his ambassador to the United Nations, Stefanik had planned to run for the job again.
The House GOP's messaging strategy is overseen and executed by the conference chair.
The House GOP unanimously reelected Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., for another term, according to two sources present at the meeting.
Sources reported that House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., were both reelected unanimously to their positions.
