GOP Rep. Michael McCaul was briefly detained by police at the airport due to concerns about his intoxication.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee is chaired by GOP Rep. Michael McCaul.
Earlier this month, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, was held at Dulles International Airport due to suspicions of being intoxicated, as reported by Planet Chronicle.
Semafor first reported that McCaul confessed to consuming Ambien and alcohol prior to a flight from D.C. to Texas.
He said he missed his flight and found himself "disoriented."
McCaul stated that he was momentarily held by law enforcement and later collected by a relative.
"Last weekend, I made a mistake—one for which I take full responsibility. I missed a flight to Texas and found myself disoriented in the airport. This was the result of a poor decision I made to mix an Ambien—which I took in order to sleep on the upcoming flight—with some alcohol," McCaul said in a statement.
"While waiting for a family member to pick me up, law enforcement officers briefly detained me. Despite this incident, I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the officers who intercepted me that evening. This event does not define me or my character. As a human, I am not perfect, but I am committed to learning from my mistakes and becoming a better person."
