Biden-Harris Policies on Gender Treatments for Minors Could be Reversed by Trump HHS
It is anticipated that President-elect Donald Trump will soon reveal his choice for HHS secretary.
President-elect Trump has hinted at plans to reduce "gender-affirming" care for minors nationwide, although he has not yet named anyone to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
In a video posted to Truth Social in February 2023, Trump announced his plan to stop the chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of young people. He stated that he would issue an executive order directing all federal agencies to halt any programs that support or promote sex changes at any age.
Trump stated in the video that he would request Congress to permanently halt the use of federal taxpayer funds for promoting or funding these procedures and pass a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation across all 50 states.
Trump declared plans to exclude any healthcare facility that provides gender-transition treatments to minors from receiving funding from Medicaid and Medicare. Additionally, he vowed to back legal suits brought by affected individuals against physicians who carried out such procedures on minors.
Trump announced that the Department of Justice will investigate Big Pharma and hospital networks to determine if they intentionally concealed the long-term side effects of sex transitions to profit from vulnerable patients.
Trump zeroed in on transgender matters in his final campaign phase with a winning ad that centered on men competing in women's sports and Vice President Harris' history of facilitating sex change operations for inmates in California.
The narrator of Trump's campaign ad stated, "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you." Experts claim that the TV commercial had a significant impact on swing voters.
The Biden-Harris administration has been working to increase access to surgical procedures for minors over the past four years. Under Biden's leadership, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established a regulation that broadened the definition of "sex discrimination" under the Affordable Care Act to encompass gender identity and sexual orientation.
The Biden-Harris regulation threatened to withdraw federal funding from any medical provider who did not provide sex change procedures for all ages under the expanded definition of Title IX. However, the Supreme Court put a stop to the rule in August.
The Biden administration's health officials urged the World Professional Association for Transgender Health to remove the age limit from its guidelines for transgender surgical procedures for adolescents, and they were successful, as revealed in unsealed court documents.
Approximately 24 states in the U.S. allow gender transition surgeries and drugs for youth, while over 25 states have implemented bans or restrictions on such procedures and prescriptions.
During his first term, Trump took longer to announce his administration's appointments compared to recent days. HHS candidates for his second term include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Eric Hargan, former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, Seema Verma, Paul Mango, Joseph Ladapo, Roger Severino, Brian Blase, and Joe Grogan.
