On Wednesday, during a closed-door vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., was reelected to lead the GOP conference.

Multiple sources in the room informed Planet Chronicle Digital that President-elect Donald Trump was "100%" in support of Johnson after addressing House Republicans earlier in the day.

Despite opposition from some GOP members, the president continues to receive support from several hard-line members over his handling of government spending and foreign aid in the current Congress.

The Louisiana Republican experienced a rapid ascent to prominence, going from an obscure legislator to succeeding former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., following his ouster by all House Democrats and eight fellow Republicans.

While Johnson presided over a razor-thin House majority, he faced the same chaos as McCarthy, with GOP rebels using the small margin to push for more conservative policy.

On Wednesday, Johnson faced no significant opposition, as it was anticipated that House Republicans would maintain their majority in the 119th Congress.

In January, he will need a majority of the entire House chamber to be elected speaker.

McCarthy was forced to make concessions to a small group of holdouts in order to secure their support after facing 15 rounds of House votes.

If Johnson wins a narrow majority, he will have little opposition, or risk being paralyzed by a new Trump administration.

Steve Scalise, R-La., and Tom Emmer, R-Minn., are expected to win their current roles as House Majority Leader and Majority Whip, respectively, without any opposition.
