The Department of Government Efficiency's social media channel is now active on X to promote "maximum transparency."
President-elect Trump establishes DOGE Department with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as co-chairs.
On Wednesday, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) launched on social media platform X, following President-elect Trump's announcement the previous day that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would be co-chairing the department.
In just over 18 hours, the DOGE account gained nearly 170,000 followers after posting a single statement from Trump about the department.
The account posted its second tweet on Wednesday afternoon, stating, "Overtime is being worked to ensure tax dollars are used prudently."
In the evening, Musk declared that the department would receive feedback from Americans regarding the allocation of government funds.
""The Department of Government Efficiency will make all its actions public online for maximum transparency. If the public suspects that we are cutting something important or not cutting something wasteful, they can let us know. We will also have a leaderboard for the most insanely dumb spending of taxpayer money. This will be both tragic and entertaining," Musk wrote."
Trump announced the creation of a new department on Tuesday, stating its goal as "eliminating government red tape, reducing unnecessary regulations, minimizing wasteful spending, and streamlining federal agencies."
"The administration will receive advice and guidance from "DOGE" on implementing large-scale structural reforms, with partnerships from the White House and the Office of Management and Budget."
Both Musk and Ramaswamy, successful entrepreneurs, have been firm in their determination to reduce the government's debt, which currently stands at $35 trillion, by cutting unnecessary expenditures.
Musk stated that this would cause ripples throughout the system, and many individuals involved in government waste would be affected.
Ramaswamy stated that he and Musk would not accept their new roles quietly after Trump's announcement.
Despite the existence of the U.S. Government Accountability Office, an independent, nonpartisan agency in the legislative branch responsible for investigating, evaluating, and auditing federal spending and performance, a new department has been established.
