CBS faces criticism from New York Post for 'unbelievable' fact-check of JD Vance.
Despite debate rules, JD Vance's comments about illegal immigration in Springfield, Ohio, were fact-checked.
On Tuesday, the New York Post editorial board criticized CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan after she tried to fact-check Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, during the vice presidential debate for his comments on illegal immigration.
In the discussion, Vance proposed that illegal immigrants had overburdened government resources in Springfield, Ohio, and Brennan responded by interrupting.
To confirm for our audience, Springfield, Ohio, has a significant number of Haitian migrants with legal status and temporary protected status, as stated by Brennan.
The Post editorial board stated that Vance's description of the migrant crisis was accurate, while they deemed Brennan's fact-check attempt as ludicrous.
The board stated that Vance was "appropriately irritated" when he opposed the moderator's interruption.
At the time, Vance stated that the rules were forbidding fact-checking, but since you are fact-checking me, I believe it is crucial to disclose the truth.
The moderators interrupted Vance while he was explaining the legal process of obtaining status under a Harris-backed immigration policy, thanking him for his description before cutting off his microphone as Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tried to argue with him.
The board wrote that this was the most shameful moment in a long history of shameful moments by moderators biased against Republicans. They "fact-checked" the truth, but then stopped the politician from responding.
No one spoke up when Gov. Tim Walz stated that illegal border crossings have decreased since Donald Trump left office, despite it being untrue. Some "facts" are too good to verify.
The board later characterized the interaction as a nationally televised demonstration of the media's "preoccupation" with misinformation and fact-checks as "hogwash."
The board added that JD Vance was telling the truth about immigration, which is why they had to silence him.
CBS News did not immediately return Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
