Trump's performance in cities has left CNN data guru in awe, as they exclaimed, "I would have never thought possible."
If 2016 was about winning the White working-class, 'the 2024 election was Trump doing historically well with minority voters' can be rewritten as: "If 2016 was about winning the White working-class, 'the 2024 election was Trump doing historically well with minority voters' can be rephrased as: 'In 2016, winning the White working-class was the focus, and in 2024, Trump's performance with minority voters was historically impressive.'"
Harry Enten, a CNN data expert, posited that Donald Trump could be the top Republican contender of the 21st century due to his success in winning over urban voters.
In the recent election, San Francisco's progressive Mayor London Breed lost to her more moderate opponent Daniel Lurie, indicating a shift to the right in the nation's most progressive cities.
The liberal cities in this nation, including San Francisco, have contributed to the push for conservative values, including the election of Daniel Lurie as Mayor of San Francisco.
Enten discussed the "red invasion" phenomenon appearing on electoral maps, which stands out from Trump's 2016 victory.
"In 2017, liberal cities were the core of "the resistance." What happened in 2024? If you think of a major city in the United States, Donald Trump put up the best Republican performance for a Republican nominee for president in at least 20 years, if not the entire 21st century. Enten said that Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco were among the cities where Trump put up historically strong numbers for a Republican candidate for president. If you would have asked me 8 years ago, I would have never thought possible."
Enten was asked by Burnett what he believes is causing the remarkable change in the sea.
"Enten stated that immigration, which was mentioned earlier, is a contributing factor. However, he believes that crime is a significant driver as well. According to Gallup polling, when asked if Democrats are satisfied with efforts to control and reduce crime, the dissatisfaction rate has increased over the past decade."
Enten remarked, "I believe the decline in the number of satisfied individuals by 20 points is a contributing factor to the ousting of liberal DAs in cities like San Francisco, Alameda County, and Los Angeles. The rise in crime rates has shifted many voters to the right."
"Burnett stated, "Obviously, we're sitting here in New York, talking about this in Manhattan, where there was a swing. However, when you look at the map of New York City, the biggest city in the country, the big swings were not only in Manhattan but also in other parts of the city. This provides a real sense of who was driving the ship.""
"Exactly, it was in The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. If you analyze the racial areas, the assembly district with the highest number of Asians shows a significant shift. Donald Trump gained 27 points compared to his previous election. The highest Hispanic percentage in an assembly district saw a 25-point shift, while the highest Black percentage in an assembly district experienced a 6-point shift. It seems that if the 2017 or 2016 election was the White working class moving to the Republican party, the 2024 election saw Trump doing exceptionally well with minority voters."
Burnett replied, "If this doesn't make you hesitate, I don't know what will for Democrats."
