Chicago mayor rebutted Trump's claim of being a threat to Black families: 'Americans have spoken'
Chicago mayor criticized by Tyrone Muhammad for prioritizing illegal immigrants over citizens.
During a Tuesday press conference, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson stated that President-elect Donald Trump poses a threat to Black families in his city due to his plan to tackle illegal immigration.
"Mayor Johnson stated that his threats are not limited to new arrivals and undocumented families, but also target Black families. He added, "We're going to protect undocumented individuals." Furthermore, he emphasized that the city of Chicago will be better, stronger, and safer regardless of who is in the White House, while also protecting Black, Brown, and Asian families."
Tyrone Muhammad, a former Chicago gangster-turned-community activist, claimed on "Fox & Friends" that Johnson is exploiting Black people and families to cover up his unethical practices and immigration policies.
Muhammad criticized Johnson for prioritizing the provision of resources to illegal immigrants over citizens and communities that have been struggling in Chicago for years.
The election of Trump demonstrated that Americans have faith in his strategy to address the border crisis, which has impacted communities such as Chicago, as explained by Muhammad.
"President Donald Trump has been given a mandate by the American people to remove illegals from our communities because we did not invite them. Our community should be prioritized with resources first."
The CEO of "Ex-cons for Community and Social Change," Muhammad, stated that he supports Tom Homan, the former acting ICE director, in his role as border czar and responsible for deportations.
"We will be on the ground with him to remove these illegals and migrants and identify their locations because they have diminished our way of life in Chicago."
Trump announced his pick for Homan on his social media platform Truth Social.
"Tom is an expert in policing and controlling our borders, and he will be responsible for deporting illegal aliens back to their country of origin. I have no doubt he will excel in this role."
Despite Trump's election victory, Mayor Johnson has stated that the windy city will protect all immigrants from federal agents, regardless of their legal status, according to WTTW.
The proposed $300 million dollar tax hike was rejected by Chicago city council after a majority of them signed onto a letter rejecting the hike. Some critics argue that this is a migrant tax plan to pay for the migrant crisis, as the city website shows that Chicago has spent $574.5 million on migrants since 2022.
In 2026, Sen. Dick Durban, D-Il., will face opposition from Muhammad, who previously served 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for murder and now runs "Ex-cons for Community and Social Change" to help ex-offenders.
