Kamala Harris's 'layup' question about differing from Biden caught Sunny Hostin off guard.
An easy question was fed to Harris by a 'The View' co-host.
Sunny Hostin, a co-host of "The View," expressed surprise on Tuesday about Vice President Kamala Harris' flawed response to her question about how she would have handled President Biden's first term differently.
Harris' response that she had "nothing to regret" about her actions as Biden's vice president has been widely criticized, particularly given her efforts to distance herself from the unpopular administration during the campaign.
During the "Behind the Table" podcast on "The View," Brian Teta asked Hostin if she personally cost Kamala Harris the election with her question. Hostin replied that she wished she had that much power, as she would have flipped the outcome the other way.
"I followed up because I was taken aback by the response. In fact, I believe it wasn't so much about the query, but rather the answer," Hostin stated. "The reason I pursued further was because that wasn't a trick question. It was a slam dunk, if you will."
Hostin, a supporter of Harris who predicted a "blowout" victory, gave her an opportunity to address those worried about her being a "change agent."
Hostin remarked that her response demonstrated her loyalty to President Biden, who had stepped aside from the race in July and endorsed his VP for the Democratic nomination.
Hostin stated that she wouldn't offer her opinion on whether Harris's response was correct or incorrect.
She said, "I was surprised at the answer because it was a question that could have been a change maker."
James Carville, a democratic strategist, stated that Harris' unsuccessful campaign could be attributed to a particular instance on "The View."
"If this campaign can be distilled into a single moment, we are in a 65% wrong-track country, according to a statement made on "The Bulwark Podcast." The country is seeking something different, and she posed the question, "How would you be different than Biden?" on "The View." This is the one question that you must answer, and it is the most important. Everyone wants to know the answer to this question, and you must freeze."
The Trump campaign was reportedly pleased with Harris' response, and the video quickly became the focus of national commercials.
"Last week, a CNN story headlined "Where Harris' campaign went wrong," while BBC's "Why Kamala Harris lost: A flawed candidate or doomed campaign?" and USA Today's "How Kamala Harris lost the election: The fatal flaws in a doomed election bid." all discussed the "View" anecdote that led to Harris's loss.
