Hollywood actress anxious about Trump victory fears for Americans.
Eva Longoria believes America will be a "scary place" with Trump as president, as she campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Eva Longoria, a Texas-native actress, campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden endorsed her for president.
"Kamala's success is our success," Longoria said at the Democratic National Convention in August. "She supports us to dream big, too. In the Latino community, we have a saying, ‘Si Se Puede!’ It means ‘Yes We Can!’ But tonight, I'm here to tell you, ‘Yes She Can!’ So we're going to say, ‘She Se Puede!’"
But she didn't.
After Trump was elected president, Longoria tried to stay positive and believed their fight would continue. In a new interview with Marie Claire, she stated, "I would like to think our fight continues." She added that she believes the country is "a scary place" and if Trump keeps his promises, it will only get scarier.
As Trump returns to the Oval Office, Longoria will return to one of her two homes outside the US with her husband and son. For several years, the "Desperate Housewives" star has been splitting her time between Spain and Mexico with her husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old son, Santiago.
"She acknowledged her privilege, stating that she gets to escape and travel, while most Americans are stuck in a dystopian country and her anxiety and sadness are for them."
Although Trump was named President-elect, Longoria's initial shock has faded. "I’ve never been depressed in my life," she recalled of the time when Trump was first elected in 2016. "It was like, ‘Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?’" she said. "I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed in my soul that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, ‘Oh, wait. The best person doesn’t win.’"
Longoria was not surprised by the 2024 election results because she had experienced the same feeling before. "The surprising aspect," she said, "is not that he won, but that a convicted criminal who spreads so much hate could hold the highest office."

In the interview, Longoria stated that she spent her entire adult life in the U.S.
"Even before the pandemic, the vibe was different. And then COVID happened, pushing it over the edge. Whether it's the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s--- on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now."
