Hollywood friends of Harris remain silent a week after Trump's victory, unable to risk losing fans, says expert.
Some notable figures, including Taylor Swift, George Clooney, and Jennifer Lopez, have not yet commented on their support for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
A week has passed since Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election against Vice President Harris. Despite many celebrities expressing their opinions on the president-elect, some have conspicuously remained quiet.
In the weeks leading up to the election, several high-profile celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, George Clooney, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Leonardo DiCaprio, publicly supported Joe Biden and urged their fans to vote. However, since Trump's victory, these same stars have been noticeably quiet, which PR expert Doug Eldridge believes speaks volumes about their feelings on the outcome of the election.
"According to Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, there are several reasons why Trump won the election despite losing the popular vote. If the election had been closer, there might have been more fervent rebukes and calls to resist from the celebrity class. However, Trump won the Electoral College and the voters, which is a synonym for 'fans' in this case, spoke loud and clear. While partisan celebs might have lost the election, they cannot afford to isolate and lose their fans as well."
"Allowing the results to settle, the fans to calm, and the daily routine to progress is a reasonable, deescalating response that doesn't always require a prepared statement or a fully carved-out position."
Winfrey, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention and appeared at Harris' final rally, has not commented on the election results.
Lopez, who spoke at Harris' rally in Las Vegas, has been busy promoting her film, "Unstoppable," while Swift, who publicly endorsed Harris in September, was recently seen at boyfriend Travis Kelce's NFL game on Sunday. Neither have publicly commented on the results.
In July, Clooney told Tapper that Biden was leading with true leadership and saving democracy again. Although Clooney had previously shown support for Biden, he had not yet commented on Trump's win.
On Oct. 25, in Houston, Beyoncé, a native of the city, gave a speech at a rally held by Harris.
"Beyoncé, accompanied by Kelly Rowland, stated that she was not present as a celebrity or a politician, but as a mother who deeply cares about the world her children and all children inhabit. She envisions a world where individuals have control over their bodies and are not divided by their past, present, or future."
"Picture our daughters growing up with no limitations, witnessing the possibilities without any barriers. Visualize our grandmothers, who have lived to see this momentous day, and the sacrifices they made. Even those who are no longer physically present, their contributions should not be forgotten. The strength of a woman standing tall and redefining leadership is what we should all aspire to. To all the men and women in this room and beyond, we urge you to join us in this journey."
Beyoncé has yet to publicly comment post-election.
In October, Bruce Springsteen publicly endorsed Harris and Walz on social media.
"I've been asked by friends, fans, and the press who I'm supporting in the upcoming election. While I understand that my opinion is just one among many, I'm backing Kamala Harris for president and Tim Walz for vice president, and I'm opposing Donald Trump and J.D. Vance," Springsteen wrote on Instagram.
As Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former Republican governor of California, declared his support for Harris.
"I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz this week, despite my growing hatred for politics. As someone who has traveled extensively and still believes in America's greatness, I find it unpatriotic to call my country a "trash can for the world." However, I am an American first and a Republican second, and I will always uphold the values of my country."
Although he has posted on Instagram, he has not commented on the election results.
Robert Downey Jr. and his Avengers co-stars encouraged individuals to vote Democrat prior to the election.
Ruffalo urged people to vote for Harris and Democrats, stating, "We're back. Let's #AssembleForDemocracy. In the #ElectionEndgame, every vote counts."
DiCaprio posted a video on Instagram supporting Harris for president, stating that climate change was a significant factor in his decision.
""Kamala Harris is the solution to climate change, saving our economy, planet, and ourselves," DiCaprio stated."
Winfrey, Lopez, Swift, Clooney, Beyoncé, Springsteen, Downey Jr., DiCaprio, and Schwarzenegger have been contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital.
In contrast, anti-Trump supporters have flocked to social media to express their views on the election results.
Roseanne Barr, a well-known supporter of Trump, has engaged in conversations on X and suggested herself as the next U.S. press secretary in a response to a post.
"Ok, I will do it @realDonaldTrump," she said.
During a recent stand-up appearance, Rob Schneider shared a video on Instagram of himself singing Michael Jackson's "Smile" and dedicated it to the Democratic Party.
"Smile through your heartache, smile even when it's breaking," he sang. "When there are clouds, Oprah and Beyoncé, you'll get by," he continued, notably switching up the lyrics to address the well-known Harris supporters.
Zachary Levi, who has been vocal about his support for Trump, replied to a fan's tweet about feeling vindicated after the election results.
"He wrote on X that he didn't feel vindication because he didn't need a win to know he was fighting for what was right. Win or lose, he would follow the conviction and calling that God put in him from birth. He was grateful and proud of those who saw through the noise and voted for @realDonaldTrump. There is still much work to be done, and he won't stop fighting."
When sharing their thoughts, celebrities and public figures must proceed with caution and walk a fine line, according to Eldridge.
"Athletes and celebrities are more politically vocal today, but their actions can have consequences, regardless of their political leanings. For example, Tom Brady faced criticism for his suspected support of Trump, and Joey Bosa was criticized and may face penalties for wearing a MAGA hat."
""When it comes to sharing your political views with the general public, it's important to measure twice before cutting once, as doing so can isolate and polarize your fan base," he advised."
