Tyreek Hill announces plans to leave Dolphins following the conclusion of the 2024 season: "I'm out."
For the first time in his career, Hill will not be participating in the playoffs following a tumultuous season with the Dolphins.
One NFL star seems to be seeking a change in his current circumstances as the 2024 regular season concludes.
On Sunday, Tyreek Hill witnessed the Dolphins lose to the Jets, and despite the Broncos' victory, he seemed unhappy that Miami wouldn't be going to the playoffs.
Hill candidly admitted in his postgame interview that he was disappointed about missing the postseason for the first time in his career.
He stated that he would prioritize what's best for him and his family after revealing that he wouldn't be receiving a shot at the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. He added that he would open the door for himself wherever the opportunity may arise.
"I'm opening the door. I'm out, bro. It was great playing here, but I gotta prioritize my career because I'm too competitive to settle for less."
Hill essentially doubled down on his X-page.
The Hill family will forever be grateful for the doors that love and respect opened for them, as he tweeted out.
Hill received a contract extension with the Dolphins this past offseason, expressing his desire for a new deal after previously getting a four-year, $120 million extension when the Dolphins traded with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire him in 2022.
Hill signed a three-year, $90 million deal with the Dolphins in August, with $65 million guaranteed. As a result, he is under contract with Miami until he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
According to OverTheCap, the two seasons have cap hits of $27.7 million and $51.9 million respectively.
Tua Tagovailoa's repeated concussions have contributed to Hill's worst season with the Dolphins.
In his first two seasons with the Dolphins, Hill amassed over 1,700 receiving yards. However, in the 2023 season, he led the NFL in both receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns, respectively.
Hill has been a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022 and 2023, demonstrating his exceptional speed and receiving abilities away from the Chiefs, where he spent his first six seasons.
The eight-time Pro Bowler's value on the trade market is uncertain due to his recent playoff miss and potential bad reaction.
Having a disgruntled star in the locker room isn't a fun scene for the Dolphins heading into the offseason, especially after missing the postseason.
Steve Ross, the owner of the Dolphins, stated after the game that he believes in general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel, securing their jobs in the 2025 offseason.
