Troy Aikman, a renowned NFL player, discloses his post-divorce hardships: "That was my rock bottom."
In 2023, Tony Aikman and his second wife, Catherine Mooty, ended their marriage.
Last year, Troy Aikman, a legendary player for the Dallas Cowboys, ended his second marriage.
In 2017, Aikman married Catherine "Capa" Mooty, and their divorce was finalized in July 2023. Despite having a high-profile television job for the past couple of decades, the 57-year-old broadcaster has been able to maintain a private life.
Recently, the private "Monday Night Football" commentator revealed some of the internal struggles he has faced since his marriage to Mooty ended.
The realization that the union was not going to be successful was Aikman's "rock bottom."
My rock bottom was a failure, as the Cowboys Ring of Honor inductee stated to The Athletic.
While on vacation in Lake Como, Italy, Aikman proposed to Mooty after a year of dating, according to People Magazine.
The Hall of Famer stated that he always aimed to avoid being satisfied.
"Being content was never a four-letter word for me. I always sought to be dissatisfied," Aikman said. "I didn't want to be around anyone who was content. That's just not a place I could land."
The Athletic observed that Aikman concealed the "inner turmoil" he experienced.
"The wrestling with inner turmoil that no one knew about was masked by the success everyone saw," the publication reported. "Aikman has been struggling with it for decades, fighting against his own happiness, and chasing a finish line that he's not even sure exists."
Aikman and Worthey, his first wife, share two daughters. Their marriage, which lasted for a decade, ended in 2011.
Mooty's Instagram profile still bears the Aikman surname, despite her having two children from a prior relationship.
Since 2002, Aikman has collaborated with Joe Buck, initially in a three-person booth with Cris Collinsworth. In 2005, they became a duo. In 2022, both broadcasters signed with ESPN and now cover "Monday Night Football."
