Northwestern State is hammered with 87 points by South Alabama in a relentless attack.

Georgia Tech scored 222 points early in college football history, but the South Alabama Jaguars did not come close to that mark.

In the first quarter, South Alabama scored 24 points, followed by 28 points in the second, 28 points in the third, and seven points in the fourth. The Jaguars won the game with a final score of 87-10 over the Northwestern State Demons.

The team, under new head coach Major Applewhite, achieved its first victory and established a new school scoring record.

Jamaal Pritchett scored the first touchdown for South Alabama by returning a punt 62 yards. The game between the Jaguars and Demons was only two minutes old, and things only got worse for Northwestern State.

Gio Lopez of South Alabama was 15-of-19 with 257 passing yards and four touchdown passes, while Fluff Bothwell ran for 143 yards on seven carries and scored two touchdowns. Kentrel Bullock also had 102 rushing yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns.

P.J. Martin and Jarvis Durr also added touchdowns for the Jaguars.

JT Fyard, the quarterback for the Demons, had 165 passing yards, a touchdown pass, and two interceptions. His touchdown pass was caught by Myles Kitt-Denton, who finished with three catches for 80 yards.

South Alabama’s previous scoring highs came in back-to-back weeks last season.

Since 1991, no school in the Football Bowl Subdivision has scored more points than the Jaguars, who defeated Louisiana Monroe 55-7 and Southern Mississippi 55-3 for a total of 87 points.
