Luke Hughes, a defenseman for the Devils, will not be able to begin the season due to a shoulder injury sustained during offseason training.
Last season, the Devils had 47 points for Hughes.
On Thursday, the New Jersey Devils announced that defenseman Luke Hughes sustained a left-shoulder injury and is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks.
The team stated that Hughes' injury would not necessitate surgery. The six to eight-week timeline ensures that Hughes will be back in early November, missing approximately a month of the regular season.
In the regular season in Europe, the Devils begin their campaign with a two-game series against their former coach, Lindy Ruff, and the Buffalo Sabres, held in Prague on Oct. 4-5.
In the previous season, the 21-year-old player scored nine goals and made 38 assists, appearing in every game for the Devils. As a result, he was named to the 2023-2024 NHL All-Rookie team.
Jack, Hughes' brother and a teammate on the Devils, underwent shoulder surgery on his right shoulder in April and is expected to be ready for the start of the season.
Despite playing in only 62 games, Jack Hughes recorded 74 points in the previous season. In his injury-shortened 2023-2024 campaign, the first overall pick in the 2019 draft scored 27 goals and had 47 assists.

The Vancouver Canucks' defenseman, Quinn, won the league's James Norris Memorial Trophy for being the NHL's best defenseman during the previous season.
In 82 games, Quinn accumulated 95 points, with 17 goals and 75 assists.
Jack and Luke, after recovering from injury, aim to guide the Devils back to the playoffs after a disappointing season where they finished 38-39-5.
