This season, the Philadelphia Eagles will face significant changes.

Since the 2010 season, Jason Kelce has not been the starting center.

During the offseason, the 36-year-old center retired and will be missed. In his final three seasons with the team, Kelce earned first-team All Pro honors, improving as he aged.

In a recent episode of "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce," Jason and brother Travis discussed Jalen Hurts' new responsibilities without Jason being the center of attention on the line of scrimmage.

Travis initially mentioned the Eagles quarterback's comments regarding past seasons.

Travis said, "We had a great player in Jason Kelce who took on a lot of responsibility, and as a result, I was told not to worry about a lot of things. However, my eagerness to learn was halted."

Jason expressed his dissatisfaction with how the Philadelphia media have portrayed Hurts' comments in a negative light.

Jason stated that he agrees with the negative assessment of the media in Philadelphia, which portrays him as making excuses, and he has expressed this sentiment to Jalen.

"He is now at a stage in his career where he can make a lot of protection calls and things that I did for him early in his career when he was a young player."

Jason stated that he believes that Hurts assuming leadership responsibilities at the line of scrimmage will necessitate the quarterback to become a more effective leader.

"I believe that him accepting this responsibility will enhance his skills in all areas. I am confident that he is prepared for it. Firstly, from a knowledge standpoint, and secondly, I believe he is ready for it due to his experience as a player."

"I'm excited to see how he will take on more leadership responsibilities this year."

Jason saying "Hurts" needs to be more of a leader is not a negative thing, according to Travis.

"You can't extract any negativity from that. The only thing you can extract is that he has taken the next step. He is improving, ladies and gentlemen. So don't view it as a negative thing just because it was not a concern in the past years," Travis stated.

"He wants to improve his skills so that he can play better, faster, and more confidently."

Patrick Mahomes' development as a quarterback was compared to what Hurts is currently experiencing.

Travis stated that Pat Mahomes couldn't read a defense in his first year in the league, but to succeed, one must find the drive to improve, be surrounded by coaches, players, and individuals who can provide guidance on how to enhance performance and solve problems.

"If you view that as a negative thing, it may have been blown out of proportion. However, I see it as a positive aspect because he is improving and seeking ways to enhance his performance in 2024."

Jason believes that Hurts is prepared to lead the charge on the field.

"I believe he is prepared to progress and I think it will aid him in improving as a player. I don't think you interpret this negatively. I believe, Trav, you wore it well. I am thrilled to observe how Jalen develops as a player."

The Eagles kick off their season against the Packers in Brazil on Friday, and Jason is uncertain about the Packers' strategy for targeting Hurts and the offense.

Jason remarked, "Playing new coordinators in Week 1, especially those not promoted from within, is always intriguing. The Eagles have Jeff (Hafley) as their coordinator. He spent a year in San Francisco before spending the last five of six years in college. It's fascinating to wonder what this guy will do."

"What can be expected from the Packers, who have recently adopted a 3-4 system, with this individual possessing a lot of unique traits, remains to be seen."

Last season, the Eagles began with a 10-1 record but ultimately lost five of their final six games, culminating in a 32-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.

The Packers are expected to intensify their attack on Friday, which the team struggled with during the blitz.

"The Eagles coaches have had a full offseason and are aware that they will face a lot of blitzes early this year due to how last season ended. They have been concentrating on different strategies to counteract the blitz, including getting rid of the ball, using checks, and adjusting the protection to better suit the play called."

"I believe that the offseason work on these things will result in a more productive offense, particularly in terms of efficiency."

Jason will be hosting ESPN's "Monday Night Football Countdown" and his weekly podcast "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce" in his post-playing career.
