Clemson's 'same stale offense' is criticized by Booger McFarland amid a string of disappointments.
Georgia handed the Tigers a blowout defeat in their season opener.
The Clemson Tigers faced a tough test in their season opener.
The Tigers, led by head coach Dabo Swiney, journeyed to Atlanta for their Saturday game against the Georgia Bulldogs, a team that has claimed two of the past three College Football Playoff National Championships.
The 34-3 loss of Clemson to the Bulldogs was one of the most lopsided defeats during Swiney's tenure. This loss prompted many questions about the program's direction. ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland shared his insights on what he believes has led to the Tigers' recent shortcomings.
A lack of creativity on the offensive side of the ball has hindered Clemson's success, as they only generated 188 yards of offense on Saturday.
"McFarland stated during Saturday's broadcast that he was afraid to say it, but it was the same old thing. He pointed out that there was no creativity on offense and that it had been the same stale offense for four or five years. He asked Clemson fans to consider when they would change their approach."
McFarland believes that Swiney's roster building strategy must be adjusted in order for Clemson to have the most competitive team possible.
"McFarland stated that since Dabo decides not to use the portal, there will be moments of inactivity in the program. Currently, these pauses are causing some concern, he added."
Swiney was asked about the transfer portal after the blowout loss.
"Swinney stated through ClemsonWire that people will say whatever they want to say, regardless of what he says. He acknowledged that when they lose like this, they have the right to say whatever they want. Therefore, he encouraged people to say and write whatever they want, as it is part of the process."
On Sept. 7, Swiney and the Tigers will have a chance to regain their winning streak by hosting Appalachian State.
