On Friday, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, two standout rookies in the WNBA, squared off for the fourth time this season.
Indiana secured its third victory in the four-game series against Chicago Sky during the regular season with the Fever's 100-81 victory.
The Fever have won their last three games, while the Sky have lost five consecutive contests. The first matchups were decided by a total of 10 points with a pair of one-point wins for each team, while this one became a blowout.
Tina Charles and Reese shared the rookie double-doubles record with 23, surpassing Sylvia Fowles' Chicago season record. Additionally, Reese holds the rookie record for rebounds with 399.
On Friday night, a sellout crowd of 9,445 attended the game at Wintrust Arena, celebrating Barbie Night in honor of Reese's college nickname at LSU, the Bayou Barbie. NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, who has been mentoring Reese, sat courtside during the game.
Reebok's president of basketball operations is a four-time NBA champion who played a crucial role in Reese signing an NIL deal with the company last October.
The star rookie recorded a career-high of 31 points and 12 assists, finishing the night with her 11th double-double of the year. Before the game, Clark showcased some new Nike Kobe 6 sneakers.
She is the only player to have three games with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in a season, and she is also on track to break the overall assists record for a single season. Clark entered Friday's game with an average of 18 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.7 rebounds.
The Fever are 5-1 since the Olympic break.
"I believe we have a better understanding of each other due to our chemistry and the time we spend playing together, which boosts our confidence," Clark stated during the current stretch. "You can see that. I am proud of this team. We are sharing the ball, taking good shots, and this is helping our transition game and our defense as well."
Since the Olympic break, Chicago has been struggling with a 1-5 record. Michaela Onyenwere led the team with 20 points, while Lindsay Allen and Rachel Banham scored 19 and 14 respectively. Unfortunately, the Sky were without Chennedy Carter, who has been out for the past two games due to health and safety protocols.
On Wednesday, the Fever ended their 11-game losing streak against the Connecticut Sun with an 84-80 win. This victory was Indiana's first against Connecticut since July 2021.
