After decades of competing on the court, Serena Williams reacts to her first sip of the US Open's signature cocktail.
In 2022, Serena Williams last participated in the US Open.
Serena Williams is back at the U.S. Open.
Over Labor Day weekend, the six-time Grand Slam winner watched the final Grand Slam from the stands instead of emerging from one of the player's lockers at the Arthur Ashe Stadium's back of house.
Although Williams was present at the esteemed tournament on the same day that the previous year's champion, Coco Gauff, fell and was eliminated, she was able to enjoy a popular tennis-themed cocktail as a spectator rather than a competitor.
"The 23-time Grand Slam winner, in a video posted to social media, began by stating that he was at the US Open and enjoying the famous drink. When asked if he had ever tried it, he replied that he hadn't because he had always been focused on his tennis career."
This year, the partnership between Grey Goose and the U.S. Open offers attendees the chance to enjoy a refreshing Honey Deuce cocktail. Made with vodka, lemonade, and raspberry liqueur, this drink is a crowd favorite. It also comes with a trio of signature melon balls to add a sweet touch to your drink.
Since its launch in 2007, Grey Goose has reported that the cocktail has been purchased over 2.25 million times at stadiums, according to The Business Insider.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, Williams' TikTok video of her reacting while sipping the drink has garnered over 348,000 views.
Instead of vodka, the tennis icon prefers to consume Honey Deuce with a premium tequila.
"Honey, that’s not deuce," Williams remarked. "That’s called Honey Ad-In or Honey Ace. Let’s rename it, ‘cause it’s good."
The souvenir cup featuring the names of past tournament winners, including Williams, costs $23 for Honey Deuce at this year's U.S. Open.
In 2022, at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Williams last played on court and lost to Ajla Tomljanović in the third round of the U.S. Open.
Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and a venture capitalist, shares two children with his wife, Williams. Ohanian is also a member of the founding ownership group of Angel City FC.
The team announced in July that Disney CEO Bob Iger and his wife Willow Bay would become the new controlling owners of the franchise, while Ohanian will remain on the board of directors of Angel City FC.
The women's singles final of the U.S. Open will occur on September 7, while the men's singles final is slated for September 8.
