According to reports, Jalen Ramsey signs a record-breaking contract extension with the Dolphins, securing his position as the highest-paid cornerback in the league.
For the second time in his career, Ramsey is now the NFL's highest-paid cornerback due to the deal.
The Dolphins have ensured the continuity of some crucial players for a brief period.
This week, the Dolphins extended head coach Mike McDaniel's contract and locked up quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Miami is now focusing more on defense.
Jalen Ramsey, a cornerback who has been named to seven consecutive Pro Bowls, has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $72.3 million. The NFL Network was the first to report the deal.
Patrick Surtain II's four-year extension with the Denver Broncos was surpassed by Ramsey's new contract, making him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL once again.
Over the past eight seasons, Ramsey has recorded 22 interceptions and forced six fumbles, demonstrating his ability to effectively cover one side of the football field.
This season, Ramsey will play on both sides of the field, as suggested by first-year Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Last offseason, the Los Angeles Rams traded Ramsey to the Dolphins in exchange for a package of players and draft picks.
In his first training camp in Miami, he sustained a knee injury and underwent surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his left knee, which caused him to miss the beginning of the 2023 season. Despite this setback, he had an impressive first season with the Dolphins, recording three interceptions and 22 tackles.
This week, Ramsey was listed with a hamstring injury, preventing him from participating in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The Dolphins kick off their regular season on Sept. 8, hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars.
