Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris has been praised by Bill Maher as a crucial step in saving democracy.
The HBO host previously asserted that the music superstar had the potential to sway the election outcome.
Bill Maher, the host of "Real Time," was ecstatic after Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
During a panel discussion on Friday, Maher announced that Taylor Swift had revealed her political stance and urged her fans to vote for a specific candidate.
"Of course, immediately the response from the other side was, 'Celebrity endorsements don't matter.' People are always so behind on these things, you know. That's the conventional wisdom for a long time. Many celebrity endorsements don't work, not in this case, okay?" Maher continued. I mean, just the number of people who immediately were registered from that tweet."
The HBO host argued "we live in a society where celebrity culture dominates."
George Clooney is the one who convinced Biden to step down, and I wrote the same editorial as many others. However, nobody paid attention until Clooney said it, and now he has to leave.
In the show, Maher stated that Harris had been "saved by Beyoncé's support."
In February, when Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee, Maher believed Swift's endorsement could "literally sway the election" in his favor.
"Maher stated that he had hesitated to cover Taylor Swift as if it were a national news story, but he believed it was necessary to do so because she had the potential to influence the election. He believed that this was a national news story in the sense that she was a person who could sway public opinion. Maher also cautioned MAGA people to be careful when attacking her, as she transcended political parties."
Swift announced her endorsement shortly after Tuesday's presidential debate.
In an Instagram post, Swift announced that she will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. She wrote that she is casting her vote for Harris because she fights for the rights and causes that Swift believes need a leader to champion them. Swift believes that Harris is a steady-handed, gifted leader who can lead the country to accomplish more if guided by calmness rather than chaos. Swift was impressed by Harris's selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades. The voter registration link that Swift posted to her 284 million Instagram followers received more than 300,000 clicks.
