CNN anchor ponders how Harris can boost support amid Trump's economic attacks.
Despite the majority saying she won the debate, he had a 20-point lead on the economy in a snap poll after the debate, according to Kate Bolduan.
On Friday morning, CNN anchor Kate Bolduan posed a question to a network panel about how Vice President Kamala Harris can improve her polling numbers, given that former President Trump is outperforming her on economic issues.
CNN political commentators Van Jones and Alyssa Farah Griffin discussed with Bolduan how, despite Harris performing well in the debate and delivering effective messaging in certain areas, Trump is still outperforming her on a crucial issue during this election cycle.
"Kamala Harris has the potential to discuss late-stage change, but Donald Trump is still hindering her progress in the economy," she stated.
The Harris campaign is facing challenges ahead of the November election, as polling shows Trump maintaining a lead following Tuesday night's debate.
Bolduan informed her guests that, despite the majority saying she won the debate, he was leading by 20 points in a snap poll about the economy following the debate.
However, both pundits downplayed the numbers.
Obama won despite people believing that Romney was better on the economy.
He added, 'People might think that he could be better on the economy, but since he said he'll help billionaires and not me, it's unlikely that he'll be beneficial to me.'
Griffin argued that Trump is easily distracted and cannot capitalize on his 20-point advantage, citing one of his viral moments at the debate as evidence.
"While the economy is objectively Donald Trump's strongest issue, the question is whether he can focus on it. Aides have encouraged him to give speeches on it, but he often diverts to different topics, such as Hannibal Lecter and eating animals," she said.
Jones retorted, asserting that "Each candidate possesses their strengths and weaknesses."
"Abortion – weaker for him. Economy – weaker for her," he said. "Therefore, everyone has strengths and weaknesses. The key is to minimize your weaknesses and maximize your strengths. That's why he's flip-flopping on abortion and you're leaning into your strengths."
Bolduan expressed doubt that the Harris campaign is doing enough on the economy, stating that campaign officials she has spoken to have not provided satisfactory answers about the vice president's performance on this issue.
The anchor stated that the responses they have received from administration officials and Democratic electeds regarding the question "Why isn't she doing better on the economy" have been unsatisfying, with the message being that "They just haven't gotten our message."
At some point, she asked, 'Where's the expiration date on that reasoning?'
Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment from the Harris campaign was not immediately responded to.
