Biden-Harris administration's hurricane response criticized as 'incompetence of the highest order' by JD Vance.
Vance criticizes the response as a "DMV at an industrial level."
In an interview on "Fox & Friends" on Monday, JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, criticized the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene as incompetent.
Vance claimed that the Biden-Harris administration's "incompetence" has caused FEMA to be "distracted" by illegal immigrants.
"The fundamental mistake of Kamala Harris' administration, according to him, is that they should have imposed military-style command and control from the beginning. With eight different bureaucratic organizations and fiefdoms, there is often a delay in the provision of necessary resources. To overcome this, a military commander on the ground is needed to expedite the delivery of helicopters, supplies, and cut through FAA bureaucracy."
"The issue, in my opinion, is similar to the DMV at a massive scale, resulting in unnecessary suffering for many people in North Carolina. I hope that there is no unnecessary loss of life, but I fear that there is, and it is all due to the incompetence of the president and vice president, who are more focused on leisure activities than their job responsibilities."
Vance argued that there are two separate buckets of money in FEMA, one for illegal immigrants and the other for American citizens.
"The Biden-Harris administration has transformed FEMA into an agency that focuses on resettling and managing illegal immigration, which diverts attention from their primary responsibility of assisting American citizens during emergencies."
Vance criticized the administration's handling of Hurricane Helene, labeling it a "complete failure of leadership." He pointed out the stark difference in the administration's responses to previous natural disasters.
"The 82nd Airborne arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti two days after the 2010 earthquake. However, a disastrous hurricane was an hour away from their headquarters, causing further difficulties. It took more than a week for the full deployment to arrive and begin assisting the affected population."
"Unfortunately, the situation in North Carolina has been delayed due to a lack of leadership. There has been no clear direction on how to save as many lives as possible, and the necessary resources have not been provided."
For 40 years, the Appalachian region of the country has been overlooked by U.S. leadership, as stated by Vance.
"Kamala Harris has failed to address the issue of feeling ignored by showing up and focusing on the people as leaders should do."
FEMA has established a fact-check page to address false assertions regarding its handling of the hurricane, including a claim that its disaster response funding was redirected to support international initiatives or address border concerns.
"The Disaster Relief Fund is a dedicated fund for disaster response efforts, and no money has been diverted from disaster response needs."
The White House spokesperson did not provide a direct response to Vance but referred Planet Chronicle Digital to their comment about similar criticism from Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.
"The bipartisan response to Hurricane Helene has been widely praised by leaders from both parties and affected states, including South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, who called the response "superb," and North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, who said, "They're doing a great job." Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer also expressed gratitude for the federal government's help, while Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appreciated President Biden's offer to call him directly with any additional needs. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin was "incredibly appreciative of the rapid response," and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said the federal response had been "nothing short of amazing." Republican Senator Lindsey Graham thanked President Biden for coming and paying attention to their needs, saying, "We have had a good working relationship between the federal government.""
