A former Obama official expresses concern that the second Trump assassination attempt will be exploited for political gain.
On Sunday, another assassination attempt was thwarted against Trump.
Juliette Kayyem, a former Obama administration official and CNN analyst, expressed concern that the second assassination attempt on former President Trump on Sunday would be exploited for political purposes in the election.
"The assassination attempt against Trump in Florida has turned into a safety issue and is being used for political purposes in an intense political environment, according to Kayyem."
"Regardless of our beliefs, we deserve campaigns that do not involve violence as a weapon or a shield," Kayyem predicted, stating that the assassination attempt would likely be used as a political talking point in the coming weeks.
On Sunday, another attempt was made on Trump's life by a gunman while he was golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was 300 to 500 yards away from Trump when the Secret Service spotted him and opened fire. He fled but was later arrested.
Kayyem stated that political figures, such as Trump, should expect a reasonable level of safety from harm.
"Regardless of your feelings towards him or Kamala Harris, the expectation is that he will be safe," she stated.
Throughout his life, Routh, who was arrested Sunday for allegedly pushing an AK-47 through a chainlink fence at a golf course where Trump was playing, had at least 100 run-ins with the police.
On Sunday afternoon, Planet Chronicle Digital examined the suspect's social media accounts and discovered that he frequently posted about Trump, the Ukrainian war, the 2020 election, and other global events.
The account criticized the assassination attempt against Trump in July and urged Vice President Kamala Harris to visit the injured at the Pennsylvania rally because "Trump will never provide any assistance."
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from the Trump campaign when requested for a comment.
In July, during a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump sustained injuries in another assassination attempt when a gunman fired from a nearby roof, hitting his ear. One of Trump's supporters, Corey Comperatore, was killed in the shooting, and the gunman was killed by law enforcement.
Trump's 2024 rival, Harris, issued a statement expressing appreciation that Trump was unharmed.
"As we collect information, I will make it clear: I condemn political violence. It is our responsibility to prevent this event from leading to further violence," Harris stated. "I am grateful that former President Trump is safe. I praise the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement partners for their diligence. As President Biden said, our administration will guarantee the Secret Service has all the resources, capabilities, and protective measures required to execute its vital mission."
