The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is brought to New York City.
To light up a Norway spruce from Massachusetts, 5 miles of illumination will be required.
The arrival of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York City on Saturday marked the beginning of the holiday season in the Big Apple.
A 74-foot Norway spruce from Massachusetts was transported to Manhattan's Center Plaza for installation by a crane. The tree, with a diameter of 43 feet, will be adorned with 50,000 multicolored LED bulbs and a Swarovski star crown featuring 3 million crystals.
A towering conifer, donated by the Albert family in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, was cut down Thursday morning and transported to its new location via a flatbed truck.
Since 1959, the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree to originate from Massachusetts has been erected.
The lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 4.
In January, the tree will be cut down and used for building materials for Habitat for Humanity.
