Officials in Kentucky report that one person was trapped inside a building and was later rescued.
An explosion at a factory in Louisville resulted in injuries to several individuals, as per official reports.
On Tuesday, Kentucky officials announced that the explosion occurred at approximately 3 p.m. in the 1900 block of Payne Street. Local news outlet WLKY reported that the explosion took place at the Givaudan Sense Colour plant, a facility that specializes in food coloring and is situated in the Clifton neighborhood of the city.
Mayor Craig Greenberg advised residents to steer clear of the area, as officials clarified that all plant employees were indoors during the explosion.
One person was trapped in the fire but was later rescued by firefighters. No fatalities have been reported.
"Fire Chief Brian O'Neill stated that once our firefighters arrived, they made an aggressive interior attack. They rescued one person who was pinned and assisted others in evacuation."
Officials are monitoring the air and have not detected any chemical problems.
Smoke was seen rising from the collapsed building in aerial images, while the inside was visible through a gaping hole caused by an explosion.
A shelter-in-place order was issued by Louisville Metro Emergency Services for nearby residents in a Facebook post. The order has since been lifted, but a two-block radius evacuation zone remains in effect.
"A one mile radius shelter in place order has been issued due to a hazardous materials incident at 1901 Payne St."
