The Trump victory brings comfort to the family of the woman who was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant on a pedestrian trail.
The mother of Rachel Morin stated that the Maryland killing underscored the 'urgent requirement for changes' in border security.
Rachel Morin's family is "grateful" for President-elect Trump's pledge to prioritize border security following the murder of Morin by an illegal immigrant while jogging on a pedestrian trail last year.
In August 2023, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, was accused of brutally attacking and killing a 37-year-old mother of five in the affluent Baltimore suburb of Bel Air, Maryland.
"Patty Morin, Rachel’s mother, expressed gratitude for Mr. Trump's support and the elevation of border security as a national priority in a Monday statement. She believes Rachel's story brought attention to the urgent need for reforms that will make America safer. Relieved, she knows Mr. Trump's commitment to common sense border security will prevent other families from experiencing the same tragic loss."
The Morin family joined Trump on his campaign trail at several locations, including a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County, Arizona, in August, a year after Morin's passing.
"Randolph Rice, the Morins' attorney, stated that the family has always believed in highlighting the border crisis. With the election of a leader who shares their belief, they can now begin to heal, knowing that Rachel's legacy will contribute to meaningful change. The Morins look forward to the Trump administration taking immediate action to safeguard American communities."
The family hopes that Trump's immigration policies will prevent future tragedies resulting from illegal entry into the United States.
In Oklahoma, Tulsa, Martinez-Hernandez was arrested and is accused of first-degree murder, rape, and kidnapping in relation to Morin's demise.
The suspect has been labeled a potential serial killer by authorities due to his alleged involvement in multiple crimes against women in Central America and the United States, and prosecutors are seeking a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
DNA found at the scene of Morin's murder was traced back to DNA found inside a Los Angeles residence following a home invasion in March of the previous year.

Although DNA samples from both crime scenes matched, authorities couldn't identify the suspects because the samples were not previously logged in the CODIS system, which stores DNA samples of offenders arrested in the US.
"Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler stated in June that the suspect's arrest was made 1,800 miles from the southern border, and American citizens are not safe due to their immigration policies."
Millions of migrants poured into the United States during the Biden administration, causing a crisis as numbers soared in 2021 and remained high through 2022 and 2023, according to many political pundits.
Although migrants have continued to enter the United States through humanitarian parole, the number of entries dropped sharply in June after Biden imposed restrictions.
Despite a decrease in the number of illegal immigrants at the border, there has been a rise in high-profile crimes committed by suspects who were granted entry into the U.S. under the administration.
