'Deathly odor' discovered in Michigan townhome's freezer with human remains inside.
The townhome had blood stains on the floor, according to police.
Last week, human remains were found in a freezer inside a townhome in Michigan, prompting an investigation by authorities.
At approximately 12:30 PM on November 7th, the ELPD received a call about a suspicious situation at a residence.
The 911 caller reported seeing blood on the floor of the residence, according to police.
Upon the arrival of officers, they verified the presence of bloodstains on the ground but no indication of a forced entry.
A second individual of unknown gender was found in the same freezer as the first victim after a thorough search of the residence.
On Friday, the front door of the home had biohazard stickers, according to WLNS.
A resident living near the townhouse informed WLNS that he hasn't observed anyone entering or exiting the property for several months.
"Last night, Andrew Whitney discussed with an outlet how many days they had spent sleeping in bed near a potential corpse, potentially just feet away, and how something violent and serious had occurred."
Michigan State Police are now reviewing evidence.
No arrests have been made, and the police believe there is no threat to the public.
Whitney stated that investigators were present at the townhome from Thursday night until Friday morning and the odor was extremely strong.
Whitney said, "I haven't smelled death, but if I had to guess, it was the smell of death."
The investigation will be more challenging due to the time gap between discovering the remains and the crime occurring, but Interim Police Chief Chad Pride expressed confidence that detectives will solve the case.
Pride stated, "My hope is that we quickly find something to alleviate the public's concerns, as well as the anxiety of families and neighbors."
The company managing the townhouse is fully cooperating with the investigation, but cannot comment as it is an active investigation.
The East Lansing Police Department and Coolidge Place management were contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital, but no immediate response was received.
