A video has emerged showing the tail of a Delta plane being severed after a collision while taxiing at the Atlanta airport.
No injuries were reported, but photos revealed a detached tail from an aircraft.
Delta Air Lines planes collided on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday, as seen in video footage.
Endeavor Air Flight 5526's tail was struck by Delta Air Lines Flight 295, an Airbus A350, while taxiing for departure, the airline informed Planet Chronicle Digital.
"On Tuesday, September 10, at approximately 10:10 a.m. local time, the Delta Airbus A350 and the Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 collided at the intersection of two taxiways at an airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed the incident and stated that they will investigate it."
An airplane's wingtip was captured on camera by a person in a moving vehicle on the tarmac.
""Our flight from Atlanta to Louisiana was terrifying as another plane clipped the back of our plane while taxiing out. Metal scraping sounds and loud bangs were heard. Despite this, we are safe and there was no fire or smoke," posted WFTS Meteorologist Jason Adams on X."
Delta reported that no one was injured during the incident, and operations proceeded as usual. The airline's TechOps team relocated the aircraft to maintenance hangars for further examination.
"The airline announced that there were 221 customers on DL295 and 56 customers on DL5526. Currently, no additional operational changes are anticipated."
In 2023, Hartsfield-Jackson International was the world's busiest airport with over 104.6 million passengers, according to a report by the Airports Council International in April. It has maintained its position as the top airport in recent years.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating the incident.
Planet Chronicle Digital's Greg Norman contributed to this report.
