A judge in Letcher County was reportedly murdered, according to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
He wrote on X, "The world has too much violence, but I hope for a better future."
Authorities have not disclosed any details about the shooting or identified the judge killed, although one person was reportedly in custody.

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced that his office will work with Jackie Steele, the commonwealth's attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit, as special prosecutors in the case.
He posted on social media that he would thoroughly examine the matter and seek justice.
The downtown area experienced an active shooting, prompting Letcher County Pub;ic Schools to implement mandatory lockdowns.
"The shooter has been apprehended, but KSP has not released us to come out of lockdown. Your children were never in a concerning situation. Please give us time to work with KSP to figure out our next steps."
The Kentucky Court of Justice system acknowledged the killing and is collaborating with law enforcement.
"We are unable to share additional details at this time, but we will provide updates as new information becomes available," the social media statement read. "Our sincerest condolences go to all those affected by this unfortunate incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the community during this difficult period."
