Houston home invaders pose as DoorDash, kidnap mom in front of children before shootout with police.
Three suspects charged after Houston Police Officer S. Durfee recovers from gunshot wound.
On Tuesday morning, three men were accused of invading a home and tying up a mother. One of them allegedly shot an officer, leading to their arrest and charging by the Houston Police Department.
The woman's father, who is the homeowner, told KHOU that the incident began when his daughter noticed men carrying a DoorDash bag and opened the door to inform them they were at the wrong house. This led to an armed robbery and a confrontation with police.
"Ben Bates recounted to KHOU how the moment his daughter opened the door, the intruder pulled a gun from a DoorDash bag and forced entry. The intruder then zip-tied his daughter and her two young children, before proceeding to ransack the house. Despite taking the children, the intruder did not harm them, but instead made the mother walk them through the rooms in search of items to take."
Police were called to the home after a neighbor requested assistance. Upon arrival, officers confronted two suspects. While attempting to apprehend suspect Michael Perez, 38, Raymond Perez, 35, emerged from a back room and began shooting, hitting Officer S. Durfee in the leg, according to police.
Raymond Perez fled from the back door of the residence after Officer Durfee fired back but missed his target, according to police.
A third suspect, 18-year-old Brian A. Garcia Chavez, was waiting in a vehicle and fled after the shooting, according to Houston Police.
Raymond Perez was caught by police one block away from the home and charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Garcia Chavez and Michael Perez were arrested several hours later by SWAT team officers and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, police said.
The woman and her children were not hurt, KHOU reported.
Officer Durfee was admitted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and is now recovering, according to police.
