A man from Colorado was discovered deceased at Grand Canyon National Park, marking the 7th death in the park in the past month.
At the renowned national park, the average season sees a range of 10 to 15 fatalities.
Over the weekend, a man from Colorado who was on a lengthy excursion in the Grand Canyon National Park was discovered deceased, according to officials.
A call was made to the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center at approximately 5:30 a.m. reporting a death at Poncho's Kitchen, near the Colorado River, according to the National Parks Service.
Members of Patrick Horton's party discovered him on the tenth day of his non-commercial river trip along the Colorado River, and park rangers responded to the scene.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office is collaborating with the National Park Service in an investigation.
The parks service has been contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital. No information about the cause of death was given.
In less than a month, Horton is the seventh person to die in the park, making it the 14th death this year. Park officials reported 11 fatalities in 2023 and typically see about 10 to 15 deaths annually.
An 80-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman died in August, one from falling into a river during a commercial trip and the other from being swept away while hiking during a flash flood.
On August 8, a 20-year-old woman from New Mexico was discovered beneath Twin Overlooks. On the same day, a 43-year-old man from Missouri died while attempting a prohibited BASE jump from Yavapai Point. Additionally, on July 31, a 20-year-old man from North Carolina fell to his death at the South Rim.
